A mystery author whose books have both tricks and treats….

The Old Willis Place

Mary Downing Hahn

Paperback and ebook

Our Halloween cemetery is set up in the front yard, the spider webs are hung on the porch and the pumpkins are ready for carving.  With Halloween less than 2 weeks away, I want to share with you The Old Willis Place by Mary Downing Hahn.

Perhaps, instead,  I should highlight the award winning author, Mary Downing Hahn because she is a fabulously prolific YA mystery writer who never disappoints her readers.

The Old Willis Place is a ghost story YA readers will love for its engaging, sympathetic characters, its chilling atmosphere and its heart-racing conclusion.

Diana and her Little brother Georgie have a terrible secret that they have managed to hide for a long time.  All that changes when Lissa and her dad arrive to act as caretakers for the Old Willis Place an old Victorian mansion full of secrets.

Much to Georgie’s dismay, Diana reaches out to Lissa for help and things unravel from there.

Mary Downing Hahn’s novels are always a hit with my students.  I have multiple copies of her novels in my class library and they are always checked out.  At this time of year, there is even a waiting list.

Another particularly popular novel is All the Lovely Bad Ones. We read this with our Friday book club a few years back and it also makes you enter a dark room quickly so you can turn on the lights.

When looking for ghost stories that are both trick and treat, Hahn is a sure thing.

Happy Hauntings!
